Audio visual: the invisible craft behind a flawless show

All stories

Guests rarely notice audio visual when it is done well — and always notice when it is not. Our AV department exists to make sure the first is true: clean sound in every seat, a screen that is readable from the back row, and a programme that never stalls between speakers.

It begins with design. We model coverage for the room or the field, choose the right line array or point-source system, and size the LED wall to the viewing distance rather than to the budget line. Redundancy is planned in — backup playback, spare radio mics, a second power path.

On show day the gallery runs the event: vision mixing between cameras, presentation playback, lower-thirds, comms to stage managers and, increasingly, a live stream for the audience that could not travel. Hybrid sessions are now standard rather than exotic.

The team rehearses with speakers before doors open, because confidence on stage comes from knowing the slide will land and the mic will be live. That rehearsal is where the flawless show is actually made.
